Love Blossom

First off, I must say Hallelujah! It is actually sunny and warm today! When we the took the pups to the beach, there was no fog, no fog wind, nothing but glorious sunshine! Yay!!!

Cool fence in the neighborhood that is awesome and reminds me of sunshine :)

I feel a bit like Courtney Love meets Blossom in this outfit, but hey I'm going with it! ;) The dress is my mom's from the early 90s, and while it is a little tight, I really like the scoop back and floral print. I decided to edge it up with these faux-Doc Martens that I hadn't worn since I thrifted them. I wondered why I hadn't worn them, since I love boots in general, but I remembered as soon as I tried to put them on and they did NOT want to fit over my feet! Hmmm... maybe they won't be keepers after all! I also decided that the hat made a better prop than accessory for this outfit, which is why there aren't any shots with it actually on my head.

Dress: My mom's from the '90s ($?) Boots: Thrifted ($15) Hat: Roxy ($20 from Macy's)
Bag: Thrifted from Flea Market ($3?) Earrings: ($20 from The Farm Bakery and Cafe)
This is what I made for dinner the other night, and even though it wasn't my favorite meal ever, it was still pretty tasty, healthy, and colorful! I just mixed brown rice (the microwaveable kind from Trader Joe's), diced avocado and tomato, canned corn, lemon juice (fresh from the awesome lemon tree by our driveway), and added a little salt and pepper. I think it was missing something... maybe feta cheese?
Any ideas of what could give it a little more flavor?

Have a good weekend! :)

Playing Dress Up

Today is foggy, once again. We have been having the coldest, foggiest summer. :( I am used to heavy fog in June, but usually by July there's a little bit of sunshine. Not so this summer, but hopefully by August we'll get some warmth. So... I thought I would get dressed up for no reason to make my cold day a little more interesting! I have to admit that I didn't actually wear this outfit anywhere (a little too fancy, and I cannot for the life of me walk well in these heels!), but I am going out to lunch with a couple of friends, including my friend who moved to Oregon last summer! I will be wearing something a little warmer and comfier, though! :) I just bought this bag today, and I am pretty happy since it's cute, simple, and only cost $8! Score! Sorry for such a picture heavy post, but I happen to like this outfit so I couldn't narrow it down. :)
Top: Thrifted from Crossroads ($10) Jeans: American Rag from Macy's ($25) Shoes: Steve Madden from Macy's ($75) Earrings: Gift
Happy Monday!!!

Ahoy There Matey

I feel like I should be down at the harbor in this outfit, but I haven't quite worked up the nerve to take location photos yet. So, you're stuck with more pictures of me in my backyard! :) There is actually a little bit of sun out today, which made the hike I went on today pretty nice and allowed me to wear a skirt (not on the hike, just afterwards)! Hooray! Also, super psyched that my mom just gave me this shirt; it doesn't fit her right (way different body type!) and I have been looking for a striped long-sleeved shirt for a long while now. Yay me! Haha! And yes... I am wearing pigtails :). Jealous?

Shirt: Hurley ($10 from Macy's) Skirt: Ripcurl ($5 from Ross) Shoes: Converse ($20 ?) Sunglasses: ($10 from Pretty Mama) Earrings: ($15 from The Farm [local coffee shop w/ awesome jewlery])

By the way... how awesome are these earrings?!

Por Supuesto Me Encanta Girasoles

Translation: Of course I love sunflowers.
Implication: Of course I would buy a dress covered in sunflowers :)

I bought this dress (among other things) in San Luis Obispo last Saturday when we were visiting my grandma and cousin from a store called Francies. I have to admit that I wasn't super psyched when I first tried it on... after my grandma bought it for me. Oops!!! But, then I realized that it is actually pretty awesome! It's a little tight and short, but what the heck; it's summer so I can show a little skin :). I paired it with brown accessories so as to not compete with the bright yellow and blue in the dress. I only wore it for about twenty minutes, though, because that was the only time the sun was actually out today... bummer. Then it was back to jeans and a comfy tee to stay warm in the cold cold fog.

Dress: ($17 from Francies) Belt (worn backwards): Thrifted ($8 from Crossroads) Earrings: Pac Sun ($5) Bracelet: (?) Shoes: Roxy ($15 from Macy's) Sunglasses: Pretty Mama ($15 ?)
Ya... I'm fierce like a tiger. :)

Busy Busy Bee

This weekend was pretty busy since my mom's birthday was on Sunday (Happy Birthday Mamacita)! We went to dinner on Friday night with my dad at Malabar downtown and ate waaay to much! On Saturday, my mom and I drove three hours south to San Luis Obispo to meet up with my grandma and my cousin for a tastey lunch and shopping (I'll post pictures of my cute purchases later!). I didn't really take any outfit shots because I was too full of food to look cute and way too warm haha!
This is what most of the drive looked like (pretty hills, but pretty boring).
Clearly my mom and cousin, Carissa, look a lot alike, and I take after my tiny Grandma Grace [center shorties] :).
On Sunday, we went to the farmer's market down the street to pick up some fresh fruit, then went hiking at Nisene Marks with the dogs, and finished off the evening with dinner and drinks with my dad, brother, aunt, and cousins at the ever so classy Chili's! Whew, what a weekend!
My mom and dad (my mom has on suuuper high heels).

Things That Make Me Smile

I've seen this done on many of the blogs I follow, and I like the idea of listing things I like and that make me happy. It's a sunny, beautiful day out, I don't have to work, and what better than to make myself even happier with the following things!
1.) Thaneeya McArdle's Art:
Thaneeya's art is so awesome, I can't even believe it! Her work is divided into Photorealism, Abstract, Composite Realism, and Whimsy. She creates amazing portraits, whimsical creatures, intricate abstract designs, and still-lifes that look crazily realistic, all using graphite, colored pencils, and acrylics. She also has t-shirts, coffee mugs, and other objects with her art on them for sale on the site.

2.) Retro Bathing Suits:
There is something so cute about retro bathing suits, plus they are flattering on most body types... Yahtzee!
Betsey Johnson 'Unforgettable' Bikini Top and Swim Skirt
*No longer sold in stores :(
*p.s.: I own this top! Worth the money but wish I'd gotten the bottoms too!

3.)Spending so much time in pools that my hair turns green:
This was taken in Costa Rica a couple of summers ago. It was so hot that we spent most of our time in the pool or the ocean, the former turing the ends of my hair grimy green! I couldn't find any lemon to take the green out, so I had to use oranges which worked surprisingly well. Having chlorine-green hair is a good sign that it's summer and usually means I'm on vacation, two things that make me smile!

4.) Summertime Foods:
I love summer for sooo many reasons, but one big reason is that I have time to cook and eat healthy! During the school year, I rarely have the time or energy to cook, which is sad because I luuurrrv cooking! So, come summer, I get to eat fresh fruit and cook with fresh veggies to my heart's content.

5.) Sleeping Puppies:
My dogs are cute and whatnot when they are awake, but they are so lovable when they are sleepy! They aren't barking or racing around or begging for food... just sleeping like little angels :)!

Yummy Peach Salsa and Pretty New Shoes

Yummy yummy yummy!
Made a muy delicioso dinner of soy meat, bean, and corn tacos tonight with peach salsa and guacamole! The salsa had a peach from the peach tree in my backyard, cucumber, sweet red pepper, jalapeno, and shredded carrots. Morning Star Ground Crumbles make the best meat-substitution, good texture and taste! Definitely full now, but such a good meal!

I had wanted Jeffrey Campbell's 'Splendid' Sandals since seeing them on Julie from Orchid Grey, but the only size they had on sale at Nordstrom's was a 10...far from my size 6! So, when I saw these Steve Madden 'Averry' Sandals at Macy's, I was psyched! The olive color is neutral enough to go with pretty much anything, and they are so cute. They were pretty pricey for me ($75 with a coupon, but normally $99), but I love them so much that they're worth it! The pants that I'm wearing are also new, since my favorite pair are falling apart from being over-worn :).

Tank top: Old Navy ($5), Pants: American Rag ($30), Shoes: Steve Madden 'Averry' Sandals($99 on sale for $75), Earrings: Forever 21 ($4)

Foggy Day Flowers

Today was foggy and muggy, meaning layers were in order. I love this dress because it's cute and comfy, which made it perfect for work today! It is cute without the belt as well, but it adds a little somethin somethin so I threw it on. I also love these shoes, but they have a big fat whole in the bottom which rocks continually poke my foot through :(. I've been looking for a replacement pair, but no luck so far. The furry little white creature is my puppy Rocco, who likes to be all up in my business at all times!

Dress: One Clothing ($10 from Macy's)
Sweater: Hand-Me Down
Belt: Second Hand ($8 from Cross Roads)
Shoes: Roxy ($15 from Macy's)
Earrings: Pac Sun ($5)

P.S.: This last shot is not of me trying to give the stink eye. It was the first shot we took, and I was just trying to explain something about my camera. The face just happened :).

If I Was A Rich Girl...

If only, if only... If I was rich, I would most definitely buy these in a heartbeat! Maybe it's because it was just the 4th of July, but there seems to be a theme in my wish list items. Oh, how patriotic I am :). Really, I think it is the fact that my new swallow wrist tattoos have made me love all things nautical. I will just have to work my butt off to maybe someday afford some of this stuff! Sigh...
