Summer Favorites

Ok, so honestly,  I've been a wee little bit bitter about having to go to school all summer. I mean, it's pretty lame to be sitting in class for three and a half hours when it's sunny and warm outside! Buuut, it is summer, and I am still psyched about that, so here are some of my favorite things about summer, other than its obvious awesomeness!

1.)Wearing super bright nail polish... it looks way better when I'm not uber pale!

1a) Having a doggy pool (really a kiddy pool but don't tell my dogs) to put my brightly painted toes in.

2.) Bike riding! That's my pretty cruiser in the front and my friend's rad vintage cruiser in the back. I've been riding to work and loving it :).

3.) Bathing suits!!!  I have a ton of them, but I could always have more ;). That beauty on top is my Betsey Johnson top that I agonized over before buying because it was pricey, but goodness gracious is it pretty... and I got it on sale!

4.)Sun- In.... how 80's/90's  right?! I bought it earlier this year because my hair was taking foreeeever to grow out from last time I dyed it dark, but I totally like it now!

5.) My favorite: Smelling like a coconut allllll summer long! I just got this coconut oil from my work (thank you discount!), and it's pretty much the best smelling thing ever!
So what is your favorite part of summer???

BEER FEST!!!

So, this post is a little different from most of my posts, i.e. it's not fashion related in the least bit, but I thought I'd share what I did today because, well... it was pretty freakin' fun! :) It's my mom's birthday on Monday, so I bought us both tickets to the California Beer Festival since it finally came to our town! We got little itty bitty beer glasses and got to go around and try different beers all day, although I was designated driver so I sipped quite cautiously (don't drink and drive kids!)! It was super nice out and my friend and her boyfriend went too, so it was pretty epic :).  Anywhoo, here are my favorite beers from the festival (plus a couple of CA bear shots just for kicks haha!):

*Their Pear Cider is ridiculous! It pretty much tastes like juice, which admittedly is kinda dangerous, but holy moly this stuff is tasty!*

*Having worked at a Hawaiian food restaurant for a little over 2.5 years, I definitely have had my fair share of Kona beers, but I am for sure a fan. The Longboard is always good, and their Waialua Wheat is perfect for summer... it's made with passion fruit! :) *

         * I first tried a beer from Deschutes because it's brewed in Bend, Oregon, where my one of my best friends and her boyfriend now live, but it's actually really good, especially their Twilight Summer brew.*

Hope you all had a good day too!!!

The only way into the sun is walking, but you'd rather run

(lyrics from Jaymay's "You'd Rather Run")
Oh what a bad blogger I've been! Not to make excuses (but I'm gonna ;) ), but I did start school last Thursday, and I had to run my first discussion section for the California Geology class that I am T.A.ing today. The T.A.ing went really well, which is good because I was pretty nervous! I am taking 3 geology classes (yay science haha!), so I'm kind of geology-ed out already though!
And you know how I complained all summer about the fog and lack of sunshine? Well our late summer has hit, and it has hit hard!!! It was 103 degrees yesterday, which is pretty much unheard of in these parts of California--- 80 degrees is considered real warm here! My university's campus is up in the redwood trees, but the weather is always about 5 times more intense than in town, so it was way too hot all day up there!
As for my outfit, it is too hot to wear much, so when not in a bathing suit with my dogs at the beach, I've been in light airy dresses. This dress is actually a skirt, but it's kind of an awkward ankle length and sits too high on my waist, so dress it is! ;) I love everything about these shoes except the way they fit... they don't stay on my flippin' feet! :( As for my vest, I am basically obsessed with anything crocheted, especially in vest form. Wearing a cute vest is the easiest way to give any simple outfit some spunk and style! My braids, well those are just because it's too darn hot to wear my hair down.
Skirt (worn as dress): O'Neill ($15 from Macy's) Vest: American Rag ($10 from Macy's) Shoes: Hurley ($15)
(This is what a bad dog looks like! Ginger, you lil' devil!)
And I do have a couple of post ideas lined up for this week, so hopefully it will make up for my lack of posting! :)

The Devil Makes Three

[aka: one of my favorite bands ever ;) ]
(my new beanie from Forever 21 ($4.50 online)- expect to see it lots!)
Guess who's got two thumbs and is finally starting to feel better?! This chica! Hollah! ;)
On top of feeling better, the sun was out today, and I took two of my pups to the park with my friend and her adorable pup! I realize now that I spend way too much time with dogs and probably not enough with humans haha! Oh well, school starts next week, so I'll be around plenty of people soon enough.
On to my outfit, I have had this dress for a couple of years but have never worn it. It is super see-through and kind of shapeless, but for some reason I just can't seem to give it up. So, I thought I should at least wear it once before making up my mind... which I still haven't done! My cowboy boots are from a children's secondhand store, and they are still too big for my ridiculously small feet! But whatever, I still rock 'em anyways! ;)

Also, please excuse the immense amount of photos, rambling, and silly faces- this is what happens when I'm not sick!
Dress: Lux (Thrifted $10) Boots: ($? Got them years ago)
Earrings: ($20 from The Farm Bakery)
Love these the most!
What bands are you hooligans listening to these days?

Don't You Ever Stop

Oh Jeffrey Campbell, you're the poet in my heart (two Fleetwood Mac references in one post, that's right). I just found these Jeffrey Campbell clogs at Ross of all places for 50% off their retail price! Hollah! They are clogs, too, so I'm right on trend, eh?! They are beautiful and comfy, and I love them oh so very much! I also got this dress there for $7! While I really need to stop spending money, I couldn't pass these two deals up!
Dress: One Clothing ($7 from Ross) Clogs: Jeffrey Campbell 'Cayenne' Clog ($50 from Ross)
Peace Bracelet: (Gift from my aunt) Hair bow: (just found it in my room today)
Also, the past couple of days have been the first truly warm days all summer, so I have been living in my cutoff jean shorts, a tank, my bathing suit, and my super matted ocean hair! The fog just rolled back in, so looks like I won't be being so grungy (as seen below) anymore haha!
Shucks!

Let The Sunshine In

Hot diggitty it's sunny today! Still a bit breezy, but hey sunshine is sunshine, right?! I just got this top today (note to self: Stop spending money!), and I think I can style it in a lot of ways... dark skinny jeans perhaps. As much as I love the shoes in these photos, I cannot walk in them on solid ground, let alone in soft, muddy grass. There were definitely some close calls walking through my front yard! ;) I am actually wearing cutoff jean shorts and a tank today, but I thought I'd practice styling my new top then change back into my sunny day outfit! It was super bright out, so it's a little hard to see the details in the top, but the bow and stripes are a pretty silver and not as washed out as they look here haha!
My silly puppies making me laugh and almost tripping me :)
Shirt: American Rag ($15 from Macy's) Leggings: ($10? from Macy's) Shoes: Steve Madden ($75 from Macy's) Earrings: My Great-Grandma Ola's
Anybody do anything fun this weekend???

Where You Been Darling Darling?

I have had Yacht's song "Psychic City" stuck in my head for a couple days now... hence the title of this post :). My mom got a pair of super cute Lucky shoes about a month ago, and I loved them so much that last week I ordered a pair online from Macy's. Kinda weird to buy the same shoes as my mom, but they are totally worth the weirdness! They came today, and I loooovvvee them! They are surprisingly comfortable too! And, while we are still having some serious morning fog here, the days have gotten warmer, which is also grand! My new shoes and the sunshine inspired me to dress in all kinds of floral today. The weather and the beach inspired (aka created) my crazy hair, so please excuse the frizz :). Now that I have my beautiful shoes, I just need to stop spending money... pronto!
Frizzville... Population: Me!
Dress: O'neill ($10 from Macy's) Flower Hairclip: (? had it forever) Earrings: ($5 from PacSun) Shoes: Lucky Brand 'Taul Wedges' ($60 on sale from Macy's)
Pretty convincing impression of a kung-fu robot, don't you think?
Happy Monday!!!

Love Blossom

First off, I must say Hallelujah! It is actually sunny and warm today! When we the took the pups to the beach, there was no fog, no fog wind, nothing but glorious sunshine! Yay!!!

Cool fence in the neighborhood that is awesome and reminds me of sunshine :)

I feel a bit like Courtney Love meets Blossom in this outfit, but hey I'm going with it! ;) The dress is my mom's from the early 90s, and while it is a little tight, I really like the scoop back and floral print. I decided to edge it up with these faux-Doc Martens that I hadn't worn since I thrifted them. I wondered why I hadn't worn them, since I love boots in general, but I remembered as soon as I tried to put them on and they did NOT want to fit over my feet! Hmmm... maybe they won't be keepers after all! I also decided that the hat made a better prop than accessory for this outfit, which is why there aren't any shots with it actually on my head.

Dress: My mom's from the '90s ($?) Boots: Thrifted ($15) Hat: Roxy ($20 from Macy's)
Bag: Thrifted from Flea Market ($3?) Earrings: ($20 from The Farm Bakery and Cafe)
This is what I made for dinner the other night, and even though it wasn't my favorite meal ever, it was still pretty tasty, healthy, and colorful! I just mixed brown rice (the microwaveable kind from Trader Joe's), diced avocado and tomato, canned corn, lemon juice (fresh from the awesome lemon tree by our driveway), and added a little salt and pepper. I think it was missing something... maybe feta cheese?
Any ideas of what could give it a little more flavor?

Have a good weekend! :)
