Nothing But Blue Skies Always On My Mind

(Lyrics from"Blue Skies" by Jaymay)
What?! Two posts in one week... it's a miracle! ;) Ok, so that might not be very impressive, but I have been quite productive today, so feel free to applaud anyways haha! I took my dogs for a mini hike on what was once a really cool trail, but is now sadly being developed, which led to us being asked to leave :(. I also finally went to the post office to pick up my giveaway prize that I won from Cristie over at The City Birds Nest! I was super stoked to win, especially since her blog is amazing, and also since she painted it herself! If you haven't visited her blog, head over there when you're done here!
Seriously, how cute is that?! :)
On the not so productive but oh so fun side, I broke my month long streak of not buying clothes and got a new dress, a cardigan, an awesome wallet, earrings, and a winter coat. Whoops! ;) As for this outfit, it is something that is pretty much my exact style. I have always loved peasant-y, hippyish styles (my grandma raised my mom as a flower child, who in turn raised me as a flower child), and there is nothing as comfortable as a flowy skirt, especially one with big pockets that can hold all of your stuff! I prefer to wear this one higher, as a pseudo dress over tanktops, because otherwise it makes me look shorter and more squat than I already am... no bueno! I also am a fan of wearing scarves and bandanas in my hair; I feel less preppy than I do with headbands, but they still serve the same purpose. These gladiator sandals are falling apart, and I'm so sad because I haven't found a pair that I like as much! I am going to have to retire them soon though, as there is a giant hole in the bottom through which rocks poke my poor little footsie! ;) Anybody know of a place to get cute, semi cheap sandals?
Excuse my highly visible bra straps... oops! :o
Tank top: ($5?) Skirt: American Rag ($10 from Macy's) Belt (worn backwards): ($8 secondhand from CrossRoads) Sandals: Roxy ($15 from Macys) Scarf (worn as headband): from my grandma
Me contemplating whether to do homework or go shopping... guess which one won!
Also, I have a giveaway planned for the near future, so stay tuned!!!

Lucy! I'm Home!

This outfit was inspired by the following four things:

1.) Lucille Ball of I Love Lucy fame, who was always adorable and goofy and awesome!
(photo from pbs.org)
2.) Erin of Calivintage, whose sweater, rolled skinny jeans, and chunky heel outfits are some of my favorite in the blogosphere. Plus, she's a fellow California/ Bay Area girl... hollah!

3.) Lucy of Dear Fish Vintage, whose last post was all about red and black and matching your clothes to your tattoos. If you look close, my sweater has birds and cherry blossoms... just like my tattoooooos! ;)

4.) My brand-spankin' new shoes, because they are beautiful, and my mom bought them for me! Thanks mamacita! :)
Sweater: Element ($15 from Macy's) Jeans: American Rag ($25 from Macy's)

Some Folks Inherit Star Spangled Eyes

(from "Fortunate Son" by Creedence Clearwater Revival)
Ugh! Still not feeling too great, but the show must go on, eh?! I kept my outfit fairly cozy today, especially since it was brrrr cold out all day! I felt very Americana in this chambray/jean combo and even more so against the red and white of my house. Maybe because it's 9/11 so I'm feeling a little patriotic... Anyways, I'm keeping it short tonight, since I'm a sickling, but I hope everyone is having an excellent weekend! Hopefully by my next post I'll be feeling better and will be able to actually put some effort into my outfits haha! ;)

Let's GoGo On Safari

First off, thank you to everyone for your sweet comments on my last post! It was one of my favorite outfits as well! Also, a great big gigante thank you to everybody for visiting/commenting on/following Showers of Sunflowers! :)

On the not-so-bright-side, I am not feeling super great... my mom passed a cold she caught from her sixth grade students on to me. :( Bleh, no good! I wanted to do a post though, since I haven't for a while, so I kept it simple. I love my giraffe sweater, and I wear it with pretty much everything! The sweater dress is my mom's, and it's a little small and see-through, but the sweater made it wearable. As for the boots, I have had them for years and years and got them for super cheap. They are beat up, but I just keep on wearing them! ;) For some reason, I felt like a go-go dancer on safari, hence the title haha! Please excuse my un-psyched face in these shots! :/

In Transit

I went on a mini adventure with my family today. We tried to go on a hike near a small town called Davenport, but the trail ended up being a no dog zone, so we went to a beach near the trail to let the pups run. It was super windy and there was a dead seal floating in the water, stinking the place up, but we had fun staying upwind of the stench! I wish I had brought my camera, it was so pretty and the water was teal and clear! This is a picture of the same beach I found online, though... the rock on the right is called Greyhound Rock.
Anyways, summer is coming to an end before it even started here. The wind picked up today, and our two days of warmth have since returned to mild weather. So, I thought I'd wear a Summer-to-Fall outfit. The dress is clearly very summery (excuse the uneven hem!), but I paired it with bright/warm colors and my lovely new clogs to make the transition into the upcoming season. I have found that I dress cute during summer, but I dress more "stylish" during the cooler seasons when I actually put more thought into my outfits.

Also, I just joined Bloglovin', so feel free to follow through that as well! :) Thanks!!!

What is your favorite season clothing/fashion-wise?

Don't You Ever Stop

Oh Jeffrey Campbell, you're the poet in my heart (two Fleetwood Mac references in one post, that's right). I just found these Jeffrey Campbell clogs at Ross of all places for 50% off their retail price! Hollah! They are clogs, too, so I'm right on trend, eh?! They are beautiful and comfy, and I love them oh so very much! I also got this dress there for $7! While I really need to stop spending money, I couldn't pass these two deals up!
Dress: One Clothing ($7 from Ross) Clogs: Jeffrey Campbell 'Cayenne' Clog ($50 from Ross)
Peace Bracelet: (Gift from my aunt) Hair bow: (just found it in my room today)
Also, the past couple of days have been the first truly warm days all summer, so I have been living in my cutoff jean shorts, a tank, my bathing suit, and my super matted ocean hair! The fog just rolled back in, so looks like I won't be being so grungy (as seen below) anymore haha!
Shucks!

Let The Sunshine In

Hot diggitty it's sunny today! Still a bit breezy, but hey sunshine is sunshine, right?! I just got this top today (note to self: Stop spending money!), and I think I can style it in a lot of ways... dark skinny jeans perhaps. As much as I love the shoes in these photos, I cannot walk in them on solid ground, let alone in soft, muddy grass. There were definitely some close calls walking through my front yard! ;) I am actually wearing cutoff jean shorts and a tank today, but I thought I'd practice styling my new top then change back into my sunny day outfit! It was super bright out, so it's a little hard to see the details in the top, but the bow and stripes are a pretty silver and not as washed out as they look here haha!
My silly puppies making me laugh and almost tripping me :)
Shirt: American Rag ($15 from Macy's) Leggings: ($10? from Macy's) Shoes: Steve Madden ($75 from Macy's) Earrings: My Great-Grandma Ola's
Anybody do anything fun this weekend???

Where You Been Darling Darling?

I have had Yacht's song "Psychic City" stuck in my head for a couple days now... hence the title of this post :). My mom got a pair of super cute Lucky shoes about a month ago, and I loved them so much that last week I ordered a pair online from Macy's. Kinda weird to buy the same shoes as my mom, but they are totally worth the weirdness! They came today, and I loooovvvee them! They are surprisingly comfortable too! And, while we are still having some serious morning fog here, the days have gotten warmer, which is also grand! My new shoes and the sunshine inspired me to dress in all kinds of floral today. The weather and the beach inspired (aka created) my crazy hair, so please excuse the frizz :). Now that I have my beautiful shoes, I just need to stop spending money... pronto!
Frizzville... Population: Me!
Dress: O'neill ($10 from Macy's) Flower Hairclip: (? had it forever) Earrings: ($5 from PacSun) Shoes: Lucky Brand 'Taul Wedges' ($60 on sale from Macy's)
Pretty convincing impression of a kung-fu robot, don't you think?
Happy Monday!!!

Playing Dress Up

Today is foggy, once again. We have been having the coldest, foggiest summer. :( I am used to heavy fog in June, but usually by July there's a little bit of sunshine. Not so this summer, but hopefully by August we'll get some warmth. So... I thought I would get dressed up for no reason to make my cold day a little more interesting! I have to admit that I didn't actually wear this outfit anywhere (a little too fancy, and I cannot for the life of me walk well in these heels!), but I am going out to lunch with a couple of friends, including my friend who moved to Oregon last summer! I will be wearing something a little warmer and comfier, though! :) I just bought this bag today, and I am pretty happy since it's cute, simple, and only cost $8! Score! Sorry for such a picture heavy post, but I happen to like this outfit so I couldn't narrow it down. :)
